Does a small local business need a website?
Updated October 2026

Lots of local businesses get by on word of mouth and a Facebook page. But a simple website still helps in three ways.
1. Google trusts you more
Google uses your website to check what you do and where you are. A Google listing linked to a clear website usually ranks better than one with no website.
2. Customers check before they call
People want to see prices, menus, services and opening hours before they phone or visit. If they can't find them, they often choose someone else.
3. You own it
Social media pages can be restricted or lose reach overnight. Your website and domain name belong to you.
What a small business site needs
- What you do and where, in plain words
- Prices or a menu, if you can share them
- Opening hours, address and a map
- A tap-to-call button and a contact form
- Photos of your real work and premises
