Nationwide UK · Respectful postal burial

How BookBurial works

BookBurial is a postal service for Muslim families, masajid and schools who have old, torn or unwanted Qurans and Islamic books and don't know what to do with them. You post them to us. We store them with respect, then bury them in a dedicated Muslim burial plot, the way classical scholarship advises for worn-out religious texts.

The idea

Why a postal burial service?

Many families keep damaged Qurans, madrasah books and papers with Arabic verses for years. Throwing them away feels wrong, burning is disliked by many, and not everyone has land or a cemetery nearby. Mosques often receive more than they can bury themselves.

BookBurial removes that burden. Instead of travelling or searching for a suitable site, you weigh what you have, pay online and post it. There is no sign-up and no account. We handle storage, the burial itself and the administration.

Step by step

From your doorstep to the burial plot

1. Weigh your books

Kitchen or bathroom scales are fine. Include everything you would like buried: Qurans, hadith and tafsir books, du'a booklets, Islamic schoolbooks, loose pages with verses.

2. Get an instant price

Enter the weight in kg, g or lb on our calculator. The price is shown straight away, with no hidden extras.

3. Pay securely online

Checkout is by card through Stripe and takes a minute. You then receive the postal address and a reference number by email.

4. Pack and post it

Pack the books firmly, include the reference slip we email you, and send them with any tracked courier you like. You pay postage yourself; the calculator gives an average estimate and parcel comparison sites show the cheapest option for your weight.

5. We store and bury

Your books are kept respectfully until the next pooled burial in a clean, private Muslim burial plot where no one walks.

What we take

Accepted and not accepted

Accepted (paper only): Qurans, hadith books, tafsir, du'a and prayer booklets, Islamic schoolbooks, torn pages with Arabic verses, Islamic cards and posters, laminated prayer timetables.

Not accepted: CDs, DVDs, cassettes, USB sticks, tasbih beads, prayer mats, ornaments, toys, framed art, or anything with electronics, metal, glass or a plastic casing.

Pricing

Simple, by weight

The price covers handling, the burial itself, the plot donation and administration. It is based on weight, with a lower rate per kilo for larger amounts, so it suits masajid and schools clearing storerooms as well as families with a few books. For example, 20kg costs £122. There is no weight limit.

Postage to us is separate and paid by you. It is typically a few pounds for a small parcel and more for heavy or multiple parcels, because couriers limit parcel weight.
