Getting good quotes
Get two or three written quotes that list the materials, the groundwork (such as sub-base depth and drainage), waste removal and a timescale. Ask to see photos of similar jobs and whether the work comes with a guarantee.
Do I need planning permission?
Most garden projects don't. But a new front driveway over 5 square metres must use permeable surfacing or drain to a lawn or border, or it needs planning permission. Raised decking over 30 cm high and fences over 2 m (1 m next to a road) may also need permission. Check the Planning Portal or ask your council.

Frequently asked questions
How much does landscaping cost?
It depends on the size of the area, the materials and how much groundwork is needed. Porcelain and natural stone cost more than concrete paving, and composite decking more than softwood. A written quote should break it all down.
What's the best time of year?
Landscaping can be done all year, but spring and summer are busiest. Booking in autumn or winter can mean shorter waits.
Do I need planning permission?
Usually not, but front driveways, raised decking and tall fences can need it. Check the Planning Portal or ask your council.
Should I pay a deposit?
A reasonable deposit for materials is common on larger jobs. Avoid paying the full amount up front.
Is this service free to use?
Yes. Sending an enquiry is free and there is no obligation to go ahead.
