The airport leg of a long-haul trip is where stress builds. A simple plan makes it easy.
1Confirm the terminal
Terminals can change, so check the terminal shown on your booking and the airline's confirmation before you travel. Heathrow has terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5, each with its own drop-off and parking.
2Plan your arrival time
For long-haul flights, airlines usually advise arriving about three hours before departure. Add time for traffic and for the drop-off queue.

3Choose how you get there
- Park and ride: usually the best value for two to three weeks. Compare prices on Holiday Extras, APH and Airparks.
- Meet and greet: easiest with a baby or lots of luggage. See meet and greet vs park and ride.
- Taxi or private transfer: from Yorkshire a pre-booked car takes about three hours. Send a free enquiry for a Dewsbury to Heathrow quote or Batley to Heathrow.
4Do the paperwork before you leave
- Complete the arrival card: how to fill it in.
- Check in online: online check-in guide.
- Check passport validity of at least six months.
