Web Matter is an independent UK web studio and publisher. We build and look after websites for UK small businesses, and we publish practical, plain-English guides and honest reviews to help business owners choose the right web tools.

What we do

  • Websites: fast, mobile-friendly websites, online shops and booking systems, on WordPress, Shopify and custom builds.
  • Search and local marketing: SEO, local SEO and Google Business Profile set-up.
  • Technical support: WordPress modernisation and migration, hosting moves, DNS, email and speed improvements.
  • Guides and reviews: 480+ articles on hosting, website builders, SEO, analytics and dashboards, e-commerce, social media and website grants.

Software we build

We also design, build and run our own software: Taekwondo Competition Manager (tournament and live-scoring software), ScoreBracket (online scoreboards and brackets for any sport) and Seizure Tracker (a one-tap seizure diary with medical reports). Building and supporting our own products is why we know what good hosting, tooling and support look like.

Why we write reviews

Small business owners are bombarded with software choices and sponsored “top 10” lists. We write about the tools we actually use on live websites and set up for clients: what they cost in the UK, what they do well, and who should choose something else. Read how we review.

Independent and transparent

Web Matter is independently owned. We don’t accept payment for reviews. Some links are affiliate links, which help fund the site at no extra cost to you, and they’re always disclosed. See our affiliate disclosure.
