Cost
This is the biggest difference. Looker Studio costs nothing to use. Databox no longer has a free plan, and as we explain in our full Databox review, plans start from around $159 a month. If your reporting is simple, that is hard to justify.
Ease of use
Databox is built so a non-technical person can get a dashboard live in an afternoon: choose a template, connect the account and you are done. Looker Studio gives you a blank canvas. That is powerful, but expect a learning curve while you work out data sources, blended data and filters.
Connecting your data
Looker Studio connects to Google Analytics 4, Search Console, Google Ads, YouTube and Google Sheets very well. For tools like HubSpot, Facebook Ads or Shopify, you usually need a partner connector, and some of those cost money, which can erode the saving. Databox includes more than 100 integrations in the subscription, which is its main selling point.
Which should you choose?
- Choose Looker Studio if most of your data is in Google tools, you are comfortable learning a new tool, and you want to pay nothing.
- Choose Databox if you report across several platforms or for several clients, you want automated, branded reports, and your time is worth more than the subscription. You can try Databox here and see whether it pays for itself.
- Not sure? Start with Looker Studio. If you find yourself spending hours every month rebuilding reports, that is the point to upgrade.

Frequently asked questions
Is Looker Studio really free?
Yes. Looker Studio itself is free. Costs only appear if you use paid third-party connectors or choose the paid Pro version.
Can Looker Studio replace Databox?
For many small businesses, yes, especially if your data is mostly Google Analytics, Search Console and Ads. It is less convenient when you need many non-Google integrations or automatic alerts.
Which is better for agencies?
Databox is generally easier for agencies that send regular client reports, because of the templates and automation. Agencies on a tight budget often use Looker Studio with a set of reusable templates.
