Why we're making a madrasah bag
Madrasah Bag is a small UK project from Webmatter, the team behind BookBurial. We're making a full-grain leather madrasah satchel because the bag that carries the Quran to class every week should last for years, not be thrown away after one term.
Almost every Muslim child in the UK has carried the same bag to madrasah: thin canvas, a printed dome, straps that fray by the second term. They're cheap, and they're replaced every year. By the time a child finishes hifz they may have been through ten of them.
We think the bag that carries the Quran deserves better. Not flashy, and not gold on black, but a properly made leather satchel of the kind people keep for decades, sized for a mushaf and designed so children keep the Quran apart and protected without having to think about it.
What we care about
- Built to last: full-grain leather, strong stitching, brass hardware that can be repaired.
- Made for its purpose: a separate Quran sleeve and an A4-sized interior, not a generic bag with a sticker on it.
- Honest: we're pre-launch. We'll only take orders once we're happy with production samples, and we'll show real photos first.
Who's behind it
Madrasah Bag is run by Webmatter, a small UK web and product studio. Our sister service, BookBurial, provides respectful burial of old Qurans and Islamic literature by post.
