AdabHow to carry the Quran respectfully
Widely followed practice is to keep the Quran clean and covered, carry it above other items rather than underneath them, never place it on the floor, and keep it away from anything wet or dirty. A separate sleeve or cover inside the bag makes this easy, especially for children.
Respect for the mushaf is part of Islamic manners (adab) in every school of thought. The details below are widely followed across communities; for specific rulings — for example about wudu before touching the mushaf — ask your local imam or teacher, as practice differs.

- Keep it covered. Many families use a cloth cover (ghilaf) or zipped case.
- Nothing on top of it. Pack other books and items underneath, or keep the Quran in its own section.
- Off the floor. Don't put the bag holding the Quran on a wet or dirty floor; hang it or place it on a shelf or chair.
- Away from wet items. Drinks and wet clothes go in a separate pocket or bag.
- Carry it with care. Don't swing or throw the bag; teach children to put it down gently.
- Not into the toilet. Leave the bag outside the washroom.
Teaching children
Children copy what's easy. A bag with a clear, separate place for the Quran does half the teaching for you: the book always goes in the same place, on top, protected. Explain the why once — "this is Allah's words, so we look after it" — and the habit usually sticks.
What if the Quran gets damaged?
