The black leather madrasah satchel is the most formal and practical of the colours: it hides dirt and ink marks, matches school uniforms and thobes, and suits a child at seven and an adult at thirty. Black leather keeps its colour well, and scuffs show as lighter marks that a little black conditioner hides.
How it looks
Black looks at home with a school blazer, a white thobe or a work coat. It's the colour least likely to feel 'too young' by the teenage years, and the most popular choice for boys and for adults.

How black leather ages
Black full-grain leather keeps its depth of colour for years. Rather than darkening, it develops a soft sheen where it's handled most, on the flap edge and the buckles. Deep scratches can show the lighter leather underneath, and a black cream or conditioner blends them back in.
Caring for black leather
- Dust with a dry cloth. Black shows dust more than brown.
- Use a neutral or black conditioner once or twice a year. Black cream hides scuffs.
- New black leather can transfer a little dye onto light clothing when wet. Wipe it and condition it before first use. See colour rubbing off.
