ProblemMadrasah bag zip broken or splitting
If a zip splits open behind the slider, the slider has usually worn loose. Gently squeezing its back with pliers often fixes it in a minute. A missing pull can be replaced with a keyring or paperclip. If teeth are missing or the tape is torn, a tailor can replace the zip for around £10–£20.
Fixes by symptom
- Zip splits open behind the slider: close the zip, then squeeze the back of the slider gently with pliers, a little on each side. Test, and repeat if needed.
- Pull tab broke off: thread a small split ring, keyring or zip pull replacement through the slider.
- Slider came off one side: cut a small notch in the fabric tape near the bottom stop, feed the teeth back in, then sew the notch closed.
- Stiff zip: rub a pencil lead or candle wax along the teeth.
- Missing teeth or torn tape: needs a new zip. A tailor charges about £10–£20.
Avoiding zip problems
