How to make a simple Quran cover

Quick answer

To make a simple Quran cover, measure the closed Quran, add 3 cm to the height and width, and cut two pieces of cotton to that size. Sew around three sides, right sides together, turn it inside out, and hem or fold over the opening. No sewing machine? Use iron-on hemming tape, or a wrap-style cover folded from one rectangle of fabric.

You'll need

Cotton or canvas fabric (an old pillowcase works)
Tape measure and fabric scissors
Needle and thread, or iron-on hemming tape
Optional: ribbon or a popper to close it

Sewn pouch

Measure the closed Quran: height, width and thickness.
Cut two rectangles: height + thickness + 3 cm, by width + thickness + 3 cm.
Place them right sides together and sew round three sides, 1 cm from the edge.
Fold the open edge over twice and stitch it down.
Turn it right side out and press with an iron.

No-sew version

Cut the same rectangles.
Join three sides with iron-on hemming tape, following the packet instructions.
Fold and tape the opening edge.

A project for children
