Learning

Child forgetting what they've memorised

Quick fix

Forgetting earlier portions is normal in hifz and almost always means manzil (older revision) isn't getting enough time compared with new lessons. Rebalance: slow down new memorising for a while, give daily time to older juz, always read from the same mushaf layout, recite memorised portions in salah, and listen to a reciter while commuting. Agree the plan with the teacher.

Why it happens

A revision plan that works

  1. Talk to the teacher about pausing or slowing new memorisation.
  2. Set a daily manzil target, for example half a juz, and track it.
  3. Use one mushaf, always the same layout.
  4. Recite memorised portions in sunnah and nafl prayers.
  5. Listen to the same reciter on the school run.
  6. Keep a short revision routine going through holidays.

Encouragement

Every hafiz goes through this. Strong revision habits built now are what keep the Quran with them for life.

Questions people also ask

Is it normal to forget parts of hifz?

Yes. It usually means older revision (manzil) needs more time. Rebalancing with the teacher's help fixes it.
