Part of: Choosing a madrasah bag

Sizing

How heavy is a Quran?

Quick answer

A pocket Quran weighs around 150–300 g, a standard medium madrasah Quran around 500–900 g, and a large or extra-large mushaf 1–2 kg. With an exercise book and pencil case, a child's madrasah bag often carries 1–2.5 kg, so a good strap matters.

Typical weights

SizeTypical weight
Pocket150–300 g
Small300–500 g
Medium (≈ A5)500–900 g
Large900 g–1.4 kg
Extra large (≈ A4)1.4–2 kg+

Weights vary with paper, binding and page count; hardbacks and tajweed editions with thicker paper weigh more.

What goes in the bag

A medium Quran (≈700 g), an A4 exercise book (≈200 g), a pencil case (≈150 g) and a water bottle (≈300 g) come to roughly 1.3 kg before the bag itself.
