A hifz student carries the same mushaf every day, often for two to five years, and has to keep that exact copy in good condition because memorisation relies on its page layout. Why hifz is different
Students memorise from one mushaf and are usually asked not to switch layouts, because hifz partly relies on visual memory of the page (see mushaf layouts). If that copy is damaged or lost midway, it's a real setback. The bag's first job is protecting that one book.

What to look for

- Durability: it needs to last the whole hifz, typically 2–5 years

- Keep it in a cover inside the bag
- Repair small tears early with archival tape (see binding coming loose)
- Buy a second copy of the same edition as a spare for home
